Garments and substrates
- 100% cotton: the easiest substrate. Plastisol, water-based and (on dischargeable dyes) discharge all work. Loose fibers can poke through (“fibrillation”); see Fix a problem.
- Polyester and performance: heat-sensitive, with dye migration risk. Use low-cure inks, blockers and low flash temperatures.
- Blends (50/50, tri-blend): the poly brings migration risk; the cotton may discharge partially or not at all. Test.
- Nylon (jackets, bags): needs catalyzed nylon ink. Non-woven polypropylene bags need low-cure temperatures.
- Fleece and hoodies: thick, slow to heat, with seams and zippers in the way. Profile them separately in the dryer.
- Caps: need special cap platens or fixtures, and the curved, structured front makes even printing harder (Impressions).
